A job as a patisserie (pastry chef) is often mentally rewarding. Many people like to treat themselves with dessert or some kind of sweet when they are having a rough day. As a pastry chef it can be quite rewarding when you see a person who felt miserable all day have the biggest smile on their face because your dessert was just so amazing.

The Necessities of this Career

Having discipline and the ability to pay great attention to details is a must, also having great people skills, and stamina to work on your feet. When it comes to baking, small changes that would be minor in other instances can mean the difference in a wonderful tasting product and something that must be spit out right away. It can be extremely easy to make mistakes so having a high ability to focus is important. However, the job of the chef is not limited to only bakeries and confections and it requires a lot of skills in order to establish a thriving business.

Because of the constant working on your feet this job is naturally demanding. There can be times when you start work as early as 3:00am to do prep work for the day. However, the rewards can be immense for someone who enjoys making others smile and working with their hands.

An average pastry chef salary of $30,000 to $50,000 (some make much more) attached to the job is not bad after all.
